KAURI CLIFFS
Rated by international Golf Magazine as the 49th best golf course in the world, Kauri Cliffs is an 18-hole Championship Golf Course and International Resort Hotel, set on 6,000 acres on the hills near Matauri Bay, Northland.

The Resort, which includes a magnificent Lodge building and individual Cottage accommodation, enjoys spectacular 180-degree views of the Pacific Ocean, the Cavalli Islands and Cape Brett.

In 1997 Top Energy met with the Director of Waiaua Bay Farm as well as Water Consultants and was provided the brief to scope the power supply for the proposed golf course and resort development. At this time the land remained operational as a farm with several isolated power supplies spread over the property. The timing of the project was critical with large pumps required at the onset to fill a newly constructed storage lake for the purpose of irrigating the new course fairways.

The solution selected included a comprehensive design and build operation driven by the clients requirements and commenced in January 1998. The reticulation was completed on time and within budget.

In its 2003 annual reader survey, Andrew Harper's Hideaway Report named Kauri Cliffs the 10th best International Resort Hotel and the 3rd best International Resort Hideaway in the world.

CAPE KIDNAPPERS
Continuing in the tradition of building world-class golf courses with spectacular ocean views, the Cape Kidnappers Golf Course near Hastings has recently been established by the same developer as Kauri Cliffs. On the basis of the successful completion of the Kauri Cliffs project Top Energy was contracted to reticulate the Cape Kidnappers development.

Designed by Tom Doak and built on a 2,428 hectare sheep farm just outside Hastings on the central North Island's East coast, Cape Kidnappers feels like an old-style Scottish golf course, blending in with the rolling coastal farmland.

Bordering a world-famous Gannet colony, the course includes a luxurious Clubhouse, inspired in design by the ubiquitous New Zealand farm wool shed. Players and visitors can relax on leather couches and enjoy an open fire and sweeping views of the course and the Pacific Ocean. Facilities also include a dining room, bar and golfing amenities.

CARRINGTON, KARIKARI PENINSULA
Contracting Services was originally approached by the development company Edgewater Developers to design and reticulate a 71 section subdivision on the Karikari Peninsula. From this development came Carrington, a luxury accommodation resort with an 18 hole international golf course and country club which includes a restaurant, bar and a state of the art conference centre. The development also supplies three water reticulation systems that feed both the resort and Northland’s northern-most vineyard and winery, Karikari Estate, that is also part of the development. Contracting Services was then further commissioned to design and install another 10km of underground high voltage cable with 1000kVA transformers and significant quantities of low voltage reticulation on the 3,000 acre property.

Following the completion of this project phase, Contracting Services was again contracted to complete a further project with Edgewater Developers which involved the electrical design and reticulating of a 242 section subdivision on an adjacent property to the resort.

Like Kauri Cliffs, the Carrington development featured tight timelines, budgetary and environmentally aesthetic requirements. The final solution required the power supply to be installed through dry creek beds and involved approximately 10km of underground reticulation.

MATAKA STATION
Mataka Station is a permanently protected, private conservation estate situated on 1,133 hectares, including some 16 kilometres of beautiful Northland coastline. The estate includes a fully operational sheep and cattle farm, operated under lease.

There are 30 private housing lots within the estate, providing owner/shareholders with shared access to the key assets and infrastructure of the whole property, including four beaches, extensive coastline, shrub and wetland conservation areas, stables, beach lodge, boatsheds, heli-pad, Mt Mataka and an extensive network of over 40 kilometres of private roads and hiking, riding and biking trails.

Each owner holds title to a large lot (from approximately 20 - 57 hectares, of which up to 10 acres can be fenced off for private use) and the estate is covenanted with Design Guidelines for the protection and interest of all owners in the overall quality and design integrity of individual houses and landscaping.

Early in the project development phase, the Mataka Station development team contracted Contracting Services to project manage and implement a competitive reticulation solution. The development area was a geographically challenging environment and the client specifically required that, within budgetary, timing and quality guidelines, the electrical reticulation needed to also be environmentally aesthetic in that it needed to ‘blend with the environment’.

To achieve the desired result a close partnership and shared vision were developed between Contracting Services and the developer, with the final solution selected resulting in the design and installation of 15km of an all underground system to supply the exclusive building sites.

"Mataka Station is a true conservation estate. The underground electricity reticulation needed to blend totally with this unique environment. The Contracting Services team impressed us with their clear understanding of what we wanted to achieve."

MALOLOLAILAI ISLAND, FIJI
Following the successful completion of minor repairs for the Musket Cove Resort and Malololailai Lagoon Timeshare Resort, Contracting Services was contracted to design, build and commission a 2 megawatt Power Station for Leeward Island Services (a joint venture company that is owned by both Plantation and Musket Cove resorts).

This project involved the connection of 2 new 900kVA generators plus an existing 375kVA into a 415 volt system. The supply was then stepped up to 11,000 volts and both resorts were reticulated with step-down transformer units and low voltage reticulation.

"It was very reassuring knowing that Top Energy’s Contracting Services team had the expertise and experience to design, build and commission the Island’s new Power Station."
